The world is abuzz with news of the United States government shutting down as of Oct., 1 2013. As we have seen with previous major news events there was a notable increase in domain name activity that seems to be correlated.
Using our DomainView-Grapher (a beta tool available from Verisign Labs) we examined the number of domains registered over the last 3 months containing the word “shutdown.”
It’s clear from the data that interest in shutdown related domain names spiked considerably on the eve of the government shutdown and has stayed relatively high since then.
Can you think of any other domain keywords that might be seeing a spike in registrations as a result of the recent impasse in Washington? Let us know in the comments below!
