This blog was initially published on May 28, 2020. In our July 23, 2020 earnings release the company stated that the wholesale restore fee waiver for expired domains would be extended through the end of 2020. Further information can be found here.

Two months ago we implemented a number of measures to respond to the emerging COVID-19 pandemic. These measures were designed to support the communities we serve and in which we are located, while maintaining our focus on providing secure, stable and resilient critical internet infrastructure.

Verisign Will Waive Wholesale Restore Fee to Help Registrants Keep Their Domain Names During COVID-19 Crisis

Last week, we announced a number of actions we are taking to support our people and community during the global COVID-19 crisis. Today, we’re pleased to provide more detail about one of those actions, which, with the help of registrars, will make it easier for domain name registrants worldwide to keep their domain names in the midst of this crisis.

Verisign Q4 2019 Domain Name Industry Brief: Internet Grows To 362.3 Million Domain Name Registrations In The Fourth Quarter of 2019

Today, we released the latest issue of the Domain Name Industry Brief, which shows that the fourth quarter of 2019 closed with 362.3 million domain name registrations across all top-level domains (TLDs), an increase of 2.4 million domain name registrations, or 0.7 percent, compared to the third quarter of 2019.1,2 Domain name registrations have grown by 13.5 million, or 3.9 percent, year over year.1,2

Verisign Q3 2019 Domain Name Industry Brief: Internet Grows to 359.8 Million Domain Name Registrations in the Third Quarter of 2019

Today, we released the latest issue of the Domain Name Industry Brief, which shows that the third quarter of 2019 closed with 359.8 million domain name registrations across all top-level domains (TLDs), an increase of 5.1 million domain name registrations, or 1.4 percent, compared to the second quarter of 2019.1,2 Domain name registrations have grown by 17.4 million, or 5.1 percent, year over year.1,2

NameStudio® API Enhancement Enables Registrars and Resellers to Drive Domain Name Registrations

We have made some exciting enhancements to the NameStudio API, including the launch of the Online Presence Endpoint (OPE) feature. The OPE feature allows for even more personalized domain name suggestions based on information users choose to share with registrars and resellers about their online presence, such as:

  • Marketplace store and business social media account names
  • Social network, website builder, e-commerce and video streaming platform URLs
  • Business categories (example: fashion, restaurant, professional services)

Recognizing Lessons Learned From the First DNSSEC Key Rollover, a Year Later

A year ago, under the leadership of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the internet naming community completed the first-ever rollover of the cryptographic key that plays a critical role in securing internet traffic worldwide. The ultimate success of that endeavor was due in large part to outreach efforts by ICANN and Verisign which, when coupled with the tireless efforts of the global internet measurement community, ensured that this significant event did not disrupt internet name resolution functions for billions of end users.

We have shown in the past that there is a correlation between domain name registrations and newsworthy and popular events, as well as anticipated trends.
