There were two dozen criteria to qualify, including a company’s domain name system (DNS), server infrastructure, email and privacy policies, and more than 900 websites, 500 million emails and 100,000 webpages were evaluated.

New criteria was added to the 2015 Audit methodology, which comprised of the recognition for use of the Opportunistic Transport Layer Security (TLS) cryptographic protocol, updated SSL protocols, and use of anti-botnet technologies, as well as an examination of the top 50 Internet of Things (IoT) vendors. In addition, increased weighting was placed on the implementation of Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting & Conformance (DMARC) policies.
